Günter Pauler opens the doors to the Stockfisch tape archive: This is where all the Stockfisch productions are stored, whose masters were originally mastered on 1/4" magnetic tape with the studio's TELEFUNKEN M15A. What makes these STOCKFISCH master tape copies unique is that the original master is played back on the same machine on which it was recorded.

"Analog Crossroads" (Reel-To-Reel Vol.1) contains a compilation of 11 recordings from the tape archive: from Leo Kottke to Joan Baez and Martin Kolbe to Benny Goodman.

Analog Pearls Vol.5: This Hamburg recording of one of Benny Goodman’s last concerts in Germany (which was held for NDR’s “Sunday Concerts” series) is much more than a newly discovered collector’s item for fans of the eternally young American swing tradition. (Double-SACD)

Weightlessly light, yet grounded: that’s how the music on the new album from Bassface Swing Trio sounds. For this session they invited Bruno Müller, one of Germany’s most renowned jazz guitarists, and it was worth it! Because Müller is a perfect fit for the swing trio with his warm guitar sound.

The fact that they recorded these tracks live through an analog chain with the Neumann VMS-82 lathe cutting a DMM-Matrix in real-time shows at what a high-level these musicians are playing.

"The idea to re-release 'Win or Lose' on Stockfisch Records came from Günter Pauler after I had sent him the original master-tape that I had found amongst my archive material. I thought he might be interested, mainly because the original quality of recording was so good. Furthermore, it fell within the parameters of quality that Stockfisch demand from all of their recordings, so we decided to go ahead with the idea, releasing it on the 'Analog Pearls' series.

It is almost forty years since that original recording, and although much has changed as regards recording techniques and equipment, I hope the songs have stood the test of time, and you, the listener, will enjoy the result." Allan Taylor, 2020

The AYA is an association whose members are dedicated to the aim of providing an authentic musical experience in cars. “Are you Authentic?“ campaigns for “real” and “natural” sound reproduction, by e.g. organizing sound competitions, where participants receive constructive criticism from an expert jury. 

The new “know-how” which thereby arises is shared with all without any financial considerations. In order to facilitate a reproduceable test of audio systems, a detailed points system has been developed and together with Stockfisch Records this set of CDs was produced, with which the sound of (car-) hi-fi systems can be critically judged, and which therefore allows the most objective possible comparison of diff erent systems.

These tracks – some newly mixed, others specially recorded for these CDs – contain certain music signals which show up any weaknesses in the sound reproduction chain. Selected specifically to optimize sound systems, these tracks sound really good only when there are no problems with the sound system.

In 1979 Chris Jones and Charlie Carr came together to record some of their own songs
along with a few traditional pieces. The tapes of this recording lay hidden in the Stockfisch
archive for 40 years, only to resurface again in 2019. Stockfisch Records is glad to release
the results of this collaboration as the third album in its "Analog Pearls" series.
